Omišalj – Rudine – Omišalj

The hiking trail that leads to the Biserujka cave offers a unique experience to lovers of nature, hiking and speleology. The 17 km long trail will allow you to enjoy the natural beauty of Krk while discovering the most famous karst phenomenon on the island.

From the center of Omišalj, head towards the main island road, cross it at the intersection for the airport, and join the footpath that leads to the Biserujka cave. With an unforgettable view of the Crikvenica-Vinodol riviera, enjoy the gentle landscape adorned with low vegetation, dry walls and the smell of pine and wild herbs. Along the way, you will most likely meet a pilgrim walking the well-known Camino Krk route.

The hiking trail leads to a unique speleological object, the Biserujka cave, which is one of the oldest organized speleological objects in Croatia. It captures the attention of visitors from the time when, according to the stories, smugglers' treasures were hidden in it until the first arrivals of tourists. The cave, 111 meters long and 13 meters deep, consists of four halls, and is decorated with numerous stalactites and stalagmites of various sizes and shapes. It is famous for its extremely rich cave fauna, and the remains of a cave bear were also found.

Along the way, visit the picturesque Slivanjska bay, located not far from the cave, as well as the hamlet of Rudine, which strongly resists modern times and heritage, the memory of the life of former peasants and fishermen with well-preserved village architecture. After the harsh karst and the smell of the sea, you join the road that takes you back to the center of Omišalj.
