Cyclamen trail

Njivice – Mohorov – sv. Kvirin – Njivice

The cyclamen trail takes you along the coastal path through rich forest landscapes to the archaeological site of Mohorov, providing an opportunity for relaxation, recreation and learning about local history. Here you will enjoy the scents of the forest and wild flowers, especially in spring when pink cyclamen cover the ground.

Leave the camp in Njivice along the coastal path north towards the bay of Blatna. The indented coast, adorned with picturesque coves and cliffs, is surrounded by a dense oak forest. Enjoy the peace and quiet offered by the view of the crystal clear sea and the blue of the Kvarner Bay.

From the bay of Blatna there is a gentle ascent to the archaeological site of Mohorov. Although the name of the locality comes from the name of the early Christian saint Hermagoras, whose veneration from Aquileia spread to the areas of Istria and Kvarner during the 5th and 6th centuries, it seems that the building still had a residential function. Numerous archaeological investigations point to fragments of ceramics and amphorae whose production dates back to the period from the 5th to the 7th century, and the discovery of a gold coin of Emperor Theodosius II, minted in the imperial mints of Constantinople, was also significant.

Moving through the forest areas of Cerova and Veli vrh, you will be delighted by the typical sub-Mediterranean forest characterized by huge century-old medunca and cera oaks. After crossing the path to the east side of the island's main road, you continue along the winding path towards the church of St. Kvirina and the largest natural lake on the island. By the ranch with horses intended for recreational and therapeutic riding, you return to the Njivice camp and finish the circuit.
