Trail to the Ćuf peninsula

Kijac – Cape Ćuf – Kijac

The two-headed Ertić peninsula, today popularly called Ćuf after the name of its southern cape, is a real small natural oasis. You will reach the Ćuf peninsula from the nearby settlement of Kijac and will be delighted by its biodiversity and exceptional landscape. The path leads southwest, following the sea coast all the way to Cape Ćuf. A long pebble beach and then a rocky shore in the shade of oaks and pines leads to the Slatin puddle. This small salt marsh is a rare example of a biotope in Kvarner. Although it often dries up in the dry part of the year, various types of green algae grow in the water of the puddles. It is visited by wading birds and dragonflies, while numerous spiders spread their webs among the stalks of the sieve. You will often meet numerous coastal lizards running on the stones next to the puddle.

Natural puddles have always been important for humans, but also for plant and animal species. These small freshwater oases in the surface arid karst mean life, so keep them as a great treasure.

From the Ćuf peninsula, you ascend through the forest area and return in a circle towards the settlement of Kijac. The trail is ideal for nature lovers and all those who want to spend an active day in the fresh air.
